William Hanna
William Hanna—alongside his creative partner Joseph Barbera—is the mastermind behind Tom and Jerry. Together, they built the foundation of theatrical slapstick comedy at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and turned an ongoing game of cat and mouse into Hollywood royalty.

Joseph Barbera (1911–2006) was an American animator, director, and producer who, alongside his creative partner William Hanna, practically shaped the childhood of multiple generations. Together, they founded Hanna-Barbera, becoming the most successful television animation studio of the 20th century.
When MGM closed its animation department in 1957, television was booming, but it didn't have the budget for high-quality, frame-by-frame theatrical animation. To survive, Hanna and Barbera pioneered limited animation.
Instead of redrawing the entire character for every single frame, they only animated the parts that moved (like the mouth or eyes) while keeping the body static. To hide the seam where a moving head met a still body, Barbera added design elements like neckties, collars, and scarves (think Yogi Bear's collar or Fred Flintstone's tie). This saved immense time and money, making weekly cartoon shows viable for television.tom and jerry
